Discovering Cardiff’s trails and tales

guided sightseeing on two wheels

Ding will take you on a cycle tour of the Welsh capital. On our distinctive blue bikes, furnished with traditional bells, you’ll explore the sights and stories of Cardiff, from Romans to rock stars. Along bike lanes and through the city’s parks, you’ll learn the history behind Cardiff’s landmarks and visit the parts other tours can’t reach. With frequent stops and an easy pace, you don’t need to be super-fit – just a competent cyclist. And the added ingredient? Our friendly guides, featuring journalists and broadcasters, will pass on their own experiences of living and working in the city. So, give the bell a ding and come along for the ride.

WHICH TOUR DO YOU FANCY?

City Centre, Parks and Bay

Setting off from a city centre independent café, you’ll ride on cycle paths to Cardiff’s grand Edwardian civic centre, past the third Marquess of Bute’s statue overlooking the castle he rebuilt in gothic style and through Bute Park with its famous arboretum. You’ll follow the river past the Principality Stadium and through the city’s wetlands to the old Tiger Bay – the site of the docks which made the city rich. You’ll pass the Senedd (the Welsh Parliament) and make a pit-stop at the Norwegian Church, built by visiting sailors. You’ll head back to the city centre, with its beautiful Victorian arcades, home of the world’s oldest record shop. En route, we’ll sample a Welsh cake from the old city jail, now home of the indoor market.

City Centre, Parks and Cathedral

Setting off from a city centre independent café, you’ll ride on cycle paths to Cardiff’s grand Edwardian civic centre, past the third Marquess of Bute’s statue overlooking the castle he rebuilt in gothic style and through Bute Park with its famous arboretum. We’ll head north alongside the river to the historic village of Llandaff with its 12th century cathedral. We’ll visit the Victorian Insole Court mansion, home of pioneering mine owners, before sampling a craft beer (or a coffee) in the leafy suburb of Pontcanna. Back in the city centre, there’ll be time to take in the beautiful Victorian arcades and the old city jail, now home of the indoor market.

Bespoke Private Guided Tours

Fancy a day out with friends or a team-building outing with colleagues? You can choose when you set off and design your own route, or we can help you set an itinerary. Either way, whether you’re new to the city or live locally, our expert guides can give you a real sense of the history of Cardiff and the surrounding area. If you fancy going a bit further afield, why not make a day of it on a three castles tour – starting at Cardiff Castle, an easy cycle ride will take you along the River Taff to the fairytale Castell Coch. There’ll be time to explore the castle and grab some refreshments before heading gently uphill along cycle routes to Wales’s biggest castle, the medieval Caerphilly Castle. You can picnic by the castle walls or grab a pub lunch before heading downriver back to Cardiff. There are lots of places within easy reach of Cardiff on a bike – ask our guides for other suggestions.

Why book with ding wales ?

We’re broadcast journalists who have covered many a story in Cardiff and we’re keen to pass them on.

Whenever we go to a new city, the first thing we do is take a cycle tour. It’s the perfect way to get your bearings and learn about the highlights from local guides, and if you’re lucky you can pick their brains about where to eat that night or what to do on a rainy day (and there are plenty of those in Wales – don’t worry, we provide waterproofs!). We love our home city of Cardiff and we love telling people about our favourite places – the bits visitors sometimes miss. And if you’re local, join us to learn more about your city’s history. Walking is great but you can go so much further on a bike. Don’t miss out – sign up and come along for the ride!

An easy-going bike ride to appreciate Cardiff. I am a local resident who was surprised to learn how much I had overlooked significant landmarks. The tour was nicely paced with a variety of places - from medieval to the millennium. The cycling itself wasn’t at all strenuous as we followed scenic and flat trails on comfortable bikes. Mae’n amser i ddysgu am Gaerdydd!

Kris

Had a wonderful time on the guided cycle tour of Cardiff and learnt lots about Cardiff's history including; the Marquess of Bute, Cardiff Docklands, Civic Centre, Coal Exchange, Cardiff Castle and the statue of Betty Campbell. The meeting point is the Little Man Coffee shop in Bridge Street and from there we cycled through Bute Park, Alexandra Gardens, along the River Taff past the Principality Stadium and through to Hamadryad Park and Cardiff Wetlands. The tour guides Mark and Beccy were really friendly and knew lots about the history of Cardiff. You will also get to stop at the Norwegian Church Arts Centre for a coffee and cycle past the Senedd. This tour is a must for people visiting Cardiff and also great for locals who wish to learn about the history of Cardiff.

Would highly recommend. Took a parks and cathedral tour with Mark and Beccy, who were informative and friendly. Explored some well known and not so well known landmarks of Cardiff, ranging from the castle to the hidden slums and a nuclear bunker! Although the weather God's were not always smiling, the ponchos kept us mostly dry. The cycling was easy going and suitable for all. Looking forward to booking a trip to the bay on our next visit to Cardiff.

Marc H

Rich content delivered by fascinating and knowledgeable guides. A wonderful experience. Exceeded our expectations.

Sue C

Lovely afternoon trying out the new cycle tour of Cardiff. Lived here for years, but only now finding out the stories behind Blackfriars, Golate and HMS Hamadryad. If you like an easy bike ride, a bit of history and impressive landmarks - give Ding a spin! Top job, Mark and Beccy! 👍🏼👍🏼

Richard C

have been a Cardiff resident for 14 years and this tour unearthed local sights that I didn’t even knew existed. The guides were knowledgeable and entertaining, anecdotes as often as the revolutions. The bikes were well maintained, the pace gentle, chat was emphasised over speed. 14km were covered during the 3 hour tour with a coffee stop close to the Norwegian church the perfect opportunity to chat with your fellow tourists. It was a well planned and brilliantly executed afternoon and if you are local or international you could do a lot worse then spend a few hours with Team Ding.
